Well, to show willing for Daily Photo's Theme Day, which today is to show a picture which looks like a city from another country. I think, although this is a village (called Tetbury - Prince Charles lives here), this looks very French. There's even someone driving on the right! What's all that about? What's the world coming to.
Yes, very French. Apart from the lively restaurant. When i've driven through France, i've had to search outside for signs of life, to see if the restaurant is open, then when you walk in, the place is often packed! Oh the flags too lol! Apart, too, from the people actively walking through the town. Most villages in the country of France are ghost towns! Am i right, or am i right? Where does everyone go? In any case, the architecture is what i feel looks French.

You are right! It does look like a village in the country of France. Last year while travelling through France I passed by streets like this. I had the same thought: where did everybody go? Looks lovely!
Oh my Lynn what are you up to?! here's the blog address again
http://monicafromrio.blogspot.com/
I am curious!
he he it's nothing, really, just a little amusement and a mild reference to you lol.
Lynn thanks for the comment OMOB (on my other blog). I think you've left a comment there before in another post. I have put some photos of me in London for you to see but I don't think you had the chance to take a look. If you want to see my picutes in your neck of the woods (well, at least it's close) you'd have to check some older posts there.
Regarding your novel. I'm honored! I'll gladly read it. Right now I'm not reading anything, I finish the last one a month ago - a novel by Lauren Weisberger - and now all I'm reading are travelling guides!
The entry you mean is "In the same room"?
I'll read it and let you know. I admire your talent. True!
Well no if you look in the archive on that blog, you'd need to go back to the oldest date to start at the very beginning. The one you see when it first loads is the latest addition, so it's near the end of the book! You need to go back and work upwards. Hope that makes sense! Glad you will read it.
I looked all through your OB! I loved it, adored the London ones, didn't have time to comment on all but i'll go back. You look great standing in the scenes i know so well! Wish i'd known you then!
The novel format is a bit confusing but it seemed the only way to do it at the time. Let me know if it's a problem.
hmmm let's see, does it starts at "To go or not to go"? It says chapter one, so I'm guessing this is the beginning
does it start (not does it starts, right?!) :-)
you ought to sort your time-stamps on your posts -- this is dated April 30 not May 1st!
Lynn, look what Jules just found and was kind enough to share with me (with us, she wanted to make sure you see it too):
USA Todat reports alligator capturing
Amazing photo, but there's a little something there that never really made me think I was in France, and no it's neither the flag or the people, more something subtle in the architecture. The proportions...
Great take on the theme anyway!
Many thanks for your visit to my blog over the past few days. Sorry I wasn't able to reciprocate, I have been away in Noumea for almost a week and just catching up today.
In the process forgot to enrol for the theme day but am participating anyway. Cheers!
Very picturesque, Lynn. The archetypal English Small Market Town.
It must remind you a lot of Wymondham; that's where I thought it was at first glance.
Hi Lynn:
What a pretty town - it does look French! What time of year does the Prince live there?
Ooooh I love it!
Pont Girl: Well it's the permanent home of the Prince and Camilla and of Prince William and Harry. So, they are based there, it is their main home. They also have Kensington Palace of course so when attending appointments from London, they stay there. In addition, the Royal family in general own many other houses in Scotland, Windsor and Norfolk to which they go on holidays and for work appointments in other areas.
Yes, Monica 'does it start' is correct and yes that's Chapter One, then just work up in date order. Happy reading and thanks!
Gerald: yes i was tired last night and posted early! Will change today.
Nathalie i'm the same, in fact i find the enrolling a bit confusing and didn't know where to find the html so i too am joining in in spirit only really.
Dive, yes the market area is very similar to Wymondham!
Oooh that gator thing is horrid Monica. I'm amazed that police officers tackled it rather than trained animal handlers!
re: Prince Charles' homes ... oh and St. James' Palace of course around the corner from Buckingham Palace, which he inherited from HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (if anyone's interested in all this stuff. Yes, Dive i know you're not lol!)
So when it comes to villages English/French Who copied Who ?
Would it be possible to see more photos of the town center (Cheltenham)?
Yes it does look very French. Apart from that Union Jack of course! :-)
Although the title is Cheltenham, anon., which is the nearest city to me, I am not always IN Cheltenham. Sometimes my work takes me into the surrounding area, which is why you will see such posts. Yesterday i was attending a hospital appointment in Tetbury, there was no time to get back to Cheltenham and it was such a lovely village I felt it might be interesting for readers to see. Can't please all the people all the time!
Yes Mandi the Union Jack certainly stands out - same colours though!
Thesalems, why they copied us of course. Sorry i don't get the question? lol!
Your photography is always a pleasure to see. And this is a nice picture too.
My Theme Day is of a city unto itself, with its own zip code, and a portrait of the "Peashooter" at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Hope you like flying.
Boring anecdote time. A couple of years back I stayed on a French farm with Mrs Ham & her parents. A calf was born while were there, and the farmer used place names in alphabetical order for them. He asked us to provide an English "T". Father in Law came up with "Tetbury".
Oh but that's a charming story, Ham! So somewhere in France, there is a cow called Tetbury. Ahhh. How apt for my post today, thanks!
been round 70-odd posts [odd in all kind's of ways] and now back again here -- love Ham's anecdote.
I'm honoured you came back, Gerald. Yes i do too.
Oh yes, indeed it looks French!!
nice pic Lynn! :)
Oh driving on the left... that's really hard for me!! But I did it, and yes sometimes i was on my right side... nobody was damaged at least ;)
Gerald must never sleep. I certainly don't on an occasion like this. I have really enjoyed today and yes it looks just like Rohechouart in France to me, except for the flag. Probably Camilla was in town !! Heck, it's impossible to see them all, there's literally hundreds. In Adelaide it will be May 2 in a few minutes and I didn't post my shot on the correct date (in Australia). However for you people to the west of Australia, it was still May !st. Thanks for all the fun.
I liked your story too, ham!
Hi Lynn
sorry Lynn it wasn't really a question at all ... just a wee thought ... like the though ... what come first the chicken or the egg ?
I know the salems, i was just making the point 'but of course!!!'
Well, you have been quite busy. I really like the picture and am wondering if you did not post something similar to it a while ago.
I am looking at the left side of the post where you see the head-light and tire of a car, did you not post a picture in which you showed a market where people used to buy goods. I don't remember which century it is from but it also showed the floorand the stones having been rounded due to their overuse.
Is this the same area?
Soosha sticking -up for you? You did not tell her that I am the only one that does that. I just can't believe the way she nailed me. She is a good friend despite the distance, and even though she did not know the role play, I am glad we figuratively fed her to the alligators. See alligators in San Antonio, not very far from Rio I must say at least in comparison to Europe, and Monica says there aren't any in that channel. he, he, he.
he he i see you've returned with more than a hint of your mischievous, dear Clo. Yes you are right, it was a similar scene; many of the Cotswold villages have like architecture. However, it was Chipping Campden to which you refer. I am pleased you are paying attention. Take a credit. LOL!
In answer to your question about where are all the French people walking around on the outside in small villages, I think they live "outside of time". This would take a long explanation, so I'll leave it at that! :-) Love your photo and Happy May Day!
Awww clo, I am so very sorry about that! It's just that I've had someone tell me to cool it when I was all flirty with Michael and it was a bit annoying because they didn't really know the situation. I didn't want someone doing that to my dear Lynn! Thanks for being so cool about it!
Very pretty village - and lovely to think it could be in France. Perhaps the north? Super photo.
Wow i feel honoured indeed Soosh and Clo. lol.
Outside of time, Kuanyin? You can't just drop in here, say that and leave! I need to know - what on earth do you mean? Are the French, as i've often suspected, .....dun dun dur.... superbeings??
Oh! Soosh I think that was me being jealous of you flirting with Michael. I am equal opportunity and strongly believe in the concept. I hope you were not too upset, and if you were, I am sorry.
of course the French are superbeings, I can attest to that.
Oops! Anon. is clo.
No that was aaaaages ago wasn't it Soosh, before Clo appeared. ?
In that case I take it all back with the exception of equal opportunity.
Monica and Michael are not around, do you think an alligator...well! Monica maybe but not Michael.
Dear Clo? Oh! I will be counting.
lol counting?
Eric is coming to San Francisco. Well, I am so busy, as you know I am leaving my job soon, I just don't know if I can go meet him with Tomate and the rest. I t will be nice to have a cup of coffee with him, a salad, hors' d'oeuvres, a couple of main courses, maybe dessert. No I can't do dessert I am too busy.
LOL talked yourself through that one didn't you. he he that made me giggle Clo.
Listen; yes you can. Go. It'd be interesting to meet him and the others. Even if you only had time for the coffee part, who would care? Important thing is that you're there.
Hope the end to the job goes well. That last bit is always a bit painful. Soon you'll be off to the next one - what IS the next one, Clo?
Oh yes, clo, that was ages ago. Fear not!
I would like to go back to teaching at college level if possible. I will also be contacting my advisor in Holland to see if he can convince Leiden University ro subsidize my Doctoral position.
If that does not work out then I will look for a business to buy, and if that does not seem feasible, then I might move to France and try and buy a business there. I am sure that the French government will help with that venture.
Soosh, I am glad I am not the culprit. Hope you had fun on your all girls night. We Michael and I are rooting for you, but don't know how much it can provide.
Oh! ",but don't know how much it can provide."
The above quote, along with the comma, should have come after "venture." sorry for the mishap Soosh and Lynn.
No probs. Those are a lot of plans! All good, imagine being in France, how lovely. The Government there helps businesses then?
Thanks for answering my question, Lynn! I know the Prince has a lot of different homes, but I don't think I had heard of this one.
Yes it does. You have to be broke and in need of help (that might be the hard part). They assign you a counsillor whoswe job is to help you find work or fill out grant applications in order to be able to buy a business. I remember reading the info. on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a while ago. Of course yo uhave to be a French citizen.
Yes of course. It's quite the opposite here. If you're broke, so far as i know, you've had it. Certainly you'd be laughed at if you wanted to buy a business, no-one would be offering grants or anything else!
Around here I think you can get a grant for just about anything. Single mother? There's a grant for you. African American woman? There's a grant for you. (men too.) first time home owner? Yup. Starting a small business? That too. Not too sure if a small purple man from a swamp can get a drainage grant, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Gosh. There's so little here. Unless there's a lot i've missed hearing about and there's a whole community of thriving grant-given people beyond the woods. Nah. I don't think so.
I honestly feel that we are not mere individuals in a society. While individuals are responsible to their society, a society must be responsible for its individuals.
Governments are made up of individuals who represent the society (made up of individuals)within which we exist. Asking that we take responsibility toward our government's actions is only fair and believe that the relationship should be inverse.
In short this is what I believe a social contract should be like between government and governed.
I would agree, Clo. It isn't though.
Lynn said "It's quite the opposite here. If you're broke, so far as i know, you've had it. Certainly you'd be laughed at if you wanted to buy a business, no-one would be offering grants or anything else!"
Same thing here. And besides laughing at you the government would make sure it got every last penny out of you to pay every single tax they come up with before you really close the doors of your business. I'm sorry to say our government here can be our worst enemy.
I was out all day Lynn because today, Labor Day, is a holiday, so I had the day off. We took a walk by the beach, had some ice cream...and now I'm back checking the comments while you are sleeping! Can you believe everybody gets to meet Eric and we don't??!!! I'm starting to feel really jealous!
Oh I know what you mean, Monica. You know, you're only 2 hours ahead of me, I think. So any time you're bored and Lynn is most definately asleep we can have a little party of our own. Once I put Owen to bed at 9 (11 your time) I'm usually on the computer. I can't promise I wont hit on you, though!! (Sorry, just had to. Much like Clo, I am "equal opportunity!" However, I will totally never mention it again if you prefer.)
Soosha that's good. I think it's so boring when Lynn is asleep... why does she needs to sleep anyway? She could stay up all night and hang with us! :-)
Right! Sleep? Who needs sleep?!? (Oh, that's right we do need sleep. It's not like I went to bed at 11:30 and slept until 8:30 or anything...)
Okay girls, i'll stay up with you. Never, but never, will i be described as boring! lol. Name the day.
Oh we're not saying you're boring, just a wuss for having to do something as silly as sleep! *grin*
Nice photo.
Very nice town!
Fist this I thought was... it looks French. Nice - looks like a place a would want to visit
